Enphase IQ Battery 5P / IQ Battery 10 — modular 5 and 10 kWh building blocks that pair natively with IQ8 microinverters. Start with essential loads and grow later; and with IQ8, Sunlight Backup can keep daytime power flowing during an outage even before you add any battery at all.

Batteries changed from luxury to math
Since January 1, 2025, new ComEd solar customers are credited on the supply portion of the bill for exported power — not the full retail rate. Practical translation: a kilowatt-hour you store at 2 PM and use at 9 PM is worth more than one you sell to the grid. A battery isn’t just outage insurance anymore; it’s how a 2026 solar system keeps more of its own value. We design for self-consumption first and show the difference in your production model.
With solar, without solar, or added later
Batteries pair best with an array, but they don’t require one — a standalone battery can charge from the grid and carry your essential circuits through an outage. Already have solar from another installer? Enphase retrofits cleanly onto most existing systems. Planning solar next year? We’ll size the electrical work now so the battery drops in later without re-doing anything.
FAQ
How long will a battery run my house?
Honest answer: it depends on what you back up. A 13.5 kWh Powerwall carrying a whole house with air conditioning runs hours; the same battery carrying an essential-loads panel — sump, fridge, furnace fan, lights, internet — runs much longer, and recharges from solar at sunrise. We size from your real circuits, not a slogan.
Battery or standby generator?
Different tools. A generator burns fuel, needs maintenance and gas service, and doesn’t earn anything the other 364 days. A battery is silent, automatic, maintenance-free — and under supply-only netting it works every single day by time-shifting your solar. Deep multi-day outages still favor generators; most suburban outage profiles favor batteries.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Usually yes — Enphase IQ batteries retrofit onto most existing arrays regardless of who installed them, and we’ll confirm compatibility during the free evaluation.
Do batteries get any incentives in 2026?
The federal residential credit ended after 2025, so we won’t promise you one. What we can do is design the battery into the system so it maximizes Illinois Shines REC value and your supply-only netting economics — and itemize all of it in the quote.
Where does it mount, and is it loud?
Garage or exterior wall, roughly water-heater-sized, and effectively silent. We handle village permits and the ComEd paperwork as part of the install.
